Complex of five connected cavities on the western coast of the Circeo promontory, called the ‘Cathedrals’ because their vast, solemn interiors recall the naves of a religious building in size and atmosphere. They can be visited only by sea and are one of the most evocative destinations for anyone exploring the Circeo coast by boat or canoe.
In the striking area of the Precipizio, near Torre Paola, is the imposing cliff of the “five caves” or “cathedrals”. You can see five large parallel chambers that recall the Gothic spires of the great late-medieval cathedrals. They have been partly eroded by the sea. The five cavities are called the Hanging Cave, the Palm Cave, the Crack Cave, the Cave of the Three Luigis and, the most famous, the Anna Cave.
