The Circeo is easily reached by car from Rome and Naples; by train the useful station is Priverno-Fossanova, with a bus connection.
By car
The most practical option, not least because the area is large and the points of interest spread across three municipalities.
- From Rome (about 100 km): via Pontina SS148 to Latina, then SS148 towards Terracina, exiting for Sabaudia or San Felice Circeo. About one hour forty.
- From Naples (about 160 km): A1 to Cassino or the A1/Formia motorway, then SS7 Appia towards Terracina and the coast road to San Felice. About two hours.
- From the north: A1 to Valmontone, then SS600 and SS156 through the Lepini mountains towards Latina.
By train
There is no station on the promontory. Two options are useful:
- Priverno-Fossanova: closest to San Felice Circeo, with a connecting bus.
- Latina Scalo: handier for Sabaudia and the northern lakes, also several kilometres from the centre.
From both stations the onward link is by bus. Check timetables in advance: out of season services are infrequent.
By air
The reference airports are Rome Fiumicino (about 110 km) and Rome Ciampino (about 90 km). From either, car hire is the most efficient solution.
Getting around
In summer traffic towards the beaches and the historic centre of San Felice is heavy and car parks fill early in the morning. A few useful notes:
- San Felice’s historic centre is largely pedestrian: use the car parks below and walk up.
- Sabaudia runs a summer shuttle between the centre and the seafront.
- A bicycle is the best way to see the Sabaudia lakefront and the dune.
- For the promontory you need a car: the distances between trailheads are not walkable.
