The portal

The project

A portal for reading the Circeo, not only visiting it

Circeo Experience gathers in one digital place the points of interest of the promontory, the National Park and the towns that face it.

Circeo Experience is a project conceived and promoted by the Associazione Il Fortino, created to gather, organise and make easily accessible the information needed to know, visit and experience the Circeo area responsibly.

The project aims to contribute to the knowledge and appreciation of the area’s natural, historical and cultural heritage, promoting a responsible and respectful enjoyment of the places and values protected by the Circeo National Park.

Among the aims of the portal is also that of promoting sustainable and experiential tourism, encouraging visitors to discover the area while respecting the environment and local communities, and to experience it through activities connected with nature, history, culture, traditions and the distinctive features of each place.

The Circeo is a small and extraordinarily dense territory. Within a few square kilometres coexist a limestone promontory of five hundred and forty-one metres, twenty-two kilometres of coastal dune, four brackish lakes, the most extensive lowland forest in western Europe, a Palaeolithic site of international importance, a medieval village and a rationalist town of 1934.

That density is also the problem: someone arriving for a week at the beach rarely suspects what surrounds them. Circeo Experience exists to make this stratification legible, putting on a single map what is usually scattered across municipal websites, Park leaflets and word of mouth.

How it is organised

The heart of the portal is the point-of-interest guides. Each holds the exact position, verified practical information — access, duration, difficulty, recommended season — and a curiosities section explaining why the place matters: the geology, the myth, the history, the episode that never makes it onto the signs.

  • Georeferenced map: every point on a map filterable by category.

  • Navigable 3D relief: a topographic model of the area in which the points of interest are selectable nodes.

  • Events calendar: excursions, concerts, guided visits and traditional festivals.

  • Multilingual portal: content is translated and new languages are added without rebuilding the site.

An open work

The guides are editorial and intended to grow. Practical information — hours, access, trail conditions — changes with the season: if you find something out of date, telling us is the most useful contribution you can make.

Always check before setting out

For regulated-access sites — Guattari Cave, the Villa of Domitian, some forest areas — the only official reference is Circeo National Park. The indications on this portal are for orientation and do not replace the Authority’s own communications.
